Event: Koodo's Big Night Out (Davie Street Festival)
Venue: Davie Street, Vancouver
Date: August 2008
Designer: Daniel Sabina
Technical Director: Dave R.
Lead Audio: Ian F.
Overview: For the first time ever, the City of
Vancouver gave the green light to the idea of shutting down two
blocks for a giant street party to celebrate the annual Pride
Festival and the Koodo Big Night Out was born. The show
featured a variety of performers from DJ's, singers, bands,
dancers, beer gardens, an all ages stage entertainment zone, plus a
gigantic Twister stage. The show was extremely well attended
with well over 5000 guests enjoying the festivities.
The biggest challenge we faced on this event was that the
roads didn't close until 6pm and the doors for the event
opened at 7pm.
That gave our team only one hour to set up the
production. With a lot of planning, logistics and
three great teams of personnel, ShowMax was able to hit the mark
including audio, lighting, staging, tenting, trussing displays,
decor, entrance arches, beer garden lighting and electrical
distribution for the entire event site.
We were thrilled to be a part of this first time event in
Vancouver and when the street closed down, the music began and the
crowds let out a giant cheer to begin the show, there was magic in
the air.
